The Rocklin Chamber of Commerce seeks sponsors, vendors, volunteers and chili cooks for "Hot Chili and Cool Cars," scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 20 on Pacific Street between Rocklin Road and Midas Avenue.

The event will feature a chili cook-off, classic car contest, vendors, entertainment, crafts and activities for children.

The winner of the chili cook-off will receive $300. Chili will be judged in categories such as Best Chili, Most Unusual Chili, Hottest Chili and People's Choice.

PEACE for Families celebration

Images celebrating the resilience of children in Placer County's PEACE for Families program will be on display Aug. 16 to Sept. 6 at Roseville Arts Blue Line Gallery in Roseville.

Opening day will include a silent auction of children's art at 1 p.m., hands-on children's art activities from 1 to 4 p.m. and a reception from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The gallery is at 405 Vernon St. Donations are encouraged.

Visitors to the show are invited to decorate visors and flip-flops for $2 each and enjoy "Urban Art Meets Sun and Sand" – a combination of graffiti art, artists' summer reflections and a sand castle by Kirk Rademaker, according to a news release.

PEACE for Families is a nonprofit organization that provides services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Placer County. PEACE for Families representatives will be at the gallery Aug. 16 to share information and answer questions from the community.

Recycle for charity

TerraCycle Inc. is seeking schools, youth groups and places of worship to join in a free recycling fundraiser.

Used juice drink pouches can be sent to TerraCycle in prepaid shipping bags. For each pouch collected, the organization donates 2 cents to the school or charity of choice.

The pouches are cleaned and turned into tote bags and pencil cases for sale. About $75,000 has been donated to charity since TerraCycle was founded in 2001.

Auburn art show set

"Windows," an art show of work by people with Alzheimer's and related dementia, is scheduled from 4:30 to 6 p.m. today in the Arts Building, 808 Lincoln Way, Auburn.

The event will benefit the Windows Art Project by helping to train new facilitators, buying paint and supplies and providing an opportunity for the artists to paint.

Recycling event planned

The Western Placer Waste Management Authority will host a free hazardous-waste collection from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 23 and 24 at the Gold Country Fairgrounds, 1273 High St., Auburn.

The event is open to Placer County residents who can provide identification. There is a limit of 15 gallons or 125 pounds of waste per vehicle.

Placer County businesses may dispose of hazardous materials Aug. 23 for a fee and with an appointment.

Election drawing planned

Placer County Clerk- Recorder-Registrar Jim McCauley will hold a drawing at 11 a.m. today to determine the alphabetical order in which candidates for state Legislature will appear on the 2008 presidential general election ballot.

The drawing will take place in the Larry Oddo Finance Administration Building, 2956 Richardson Drive, Auburn.

'Woofstock' set in Rocklin

A dog-friendly event, "Woofstock '08," is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Johnson-Springview Park, 5480 Fifth St., Rocklin.

The event will feature "Extreme Doggie Makeover," a 1960s costume contest, wiener dog races and other fun activities.
