Kettering mechanical engineering student Will Foster built a miniature working tank that about the size of a small car. It has treads, travels 20 mph on a diesel engine, and even has a turret that shoots Red Bull cans. See the tank in action in a Flint Journal video and read more about Foster's work.

Recycled juice boxes earn Flint school 2 cents each

by Elizabeth Shaw | The Flint Journal
    Friday April 11, 2008, 4:30 PM

GENESEE COUNTY, Michigan -- Imagine 4.6 billion fruit drink pouches piled up in local landfills.

According to the Container Recycling Institute, that's how many end up there every year, due to the non-recyclable material used to make them.

Now, TerraCycle Partners is joining forces with Capri Sun and Honest Tea to rescue and reuse one million drink pouches in the next 12 months -- converting them into pencil cases, handbags and school supplies to be sold at Target stores in 2008.

The Drink Pouch Brigade will pay participants 2 cents for every drink pouch collected regardless of brand. To date, more than 800 schools and other community groups have signed up for the free program, including Garfield Community Elementary in the Flint Community School District.
