Government seems to be run by corporations

I have been worried about the way that "corporate America" seems to be getting bigger, more powerful, and pushing their weight around. I feel like our government is controlled by corporations rather than people.

Recently, I read an article about how the Scotts Miracle-Gro Co. is suing a small company, TerraCycle, which bottles "worm poop" in a green bottle. The product is organic, and the bottles are recycled. Miracle-Gro claims that the color is too similar to their packaging color (green) and therefore confusing to the consumer.

So rather than feeling powerless in this chaotic world of corporate scandals and take-overs, I decided to let my purchasing power mean something. No longer will I buy Scotts' products.

I will make my own potting soil and buy fish emulsion or "worm poop" instead. We have more power than we think, and we need to use it!

Yeah, her buying worm poop ought to knock Scott's to their knees. Rolling Eyes

You are right claire. Corporations have gained massive power. For instance Walmart revenues much higher than the combined national income of ...Pakistan+Bangladesh+Nepal+Afghanistan+Srilanka+Vietnam+
Cambodia.

But the best thing is that you realise the power of one. your power to influence Scotts. this inspires that even in an era where you see corporates everywhere there are options to influence them.

No aristocracy, but a "corporatocracy". Read "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man" to understand the "shadow government" of corporations. Enlightening and disturbing.

The Democrats are very much owned by big business. I refer you to Louisiana.

They are also invested in one of the most successful cons of all time. The con, representing the best interests of the everyday citizen.

On another note, it turns out the New York Times gave MOVEON.ORG a $100,000 donation toward their ad calling for the defeat of our sons and daughters in the US Military.

Disgusting.

Very true, Claire. But that's just the way our democratic-capitalist society works. As Herbert Hoover once said, "The business of America is Business."
